SEATTLE, Washington, October 20, 2022 – Markey Machinery, which for more than 100 years has established itself as a world leader in the industry of deck equipment and marine winches, announced the closing of a growth investment with Christian Schiller and Brian Bogen.

Markey will continue to operate from its current Seattle production plant and office, with all employees remaining on board. Current CEO Blaine Dempke will continue to lead the company as CEO and will participate on Markey’s board as a significant shareholder. Jeff Dempke will assume the new role of CEO and become a shareholder. Jeff Dempke has been with Markey since 2006. Robert LeCoque will remain actively involved, providing support to Markey customers and working with the Engineering and Sales group.

“Brian and I have invested in Markey in partnership with current management to facilitate the growth of the business to the next level,” Schiller said. We are impressed with the level of talent and expertise that Blaine, Bob and Jeff have brought together at Markey, and believe it is an excellent platform for continued growth by leveraging the expertise of Brian in the marine industry. “There will be no changes in management, employees or overall business operations except to provide additional expertise, capital and value that we bring to help Markey’s continued growth.”

Blaine Dempke and LeCoque started working with Markey as teenagers and worked their way up through the engineering department and machine shop. They took over running the business in 1996 and bought out the Markey family in 1999. “Christian and Brian are investing in an ongoing business venture that doesn’t require change,” Blaine Dempke said. “We are a well-managed company with an excellent reputation and an established clientele. We chose to work with Brian and Christian because of their expertise and the resources available in addition to a solid knowledge of a cyclical and unique maritime sector.

Markey Machinery began operations in 1907, when a young Charles Markey, fresh off a two-year trading expedition up the coast of Alaska and Siberia, started the CH Markey Machinery Company serving both the marine and forestry industries.
