Fakuma Plastics machines with sustainability and Industry 4.0 in mind

At Fakuma 2021, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag showcases system integration solutions, focuses on sustainability and unveils modern networking solutions through Industry 4.0.
The presentation at this year’s Sumitomo Demag show will be supported by three all-electric injection molding machines from the Intelect series, plus one from the company’s El-Exis SP packaging line.
An Intelect 130 / 520-450, including an LSR package, presents elastomer injection molding integrated into the Servomix Z200 measurement system from partner Nexus Elastomer Systems, Eberstalzell (Austria). For its inaugural presentation to the world trade audience, the LSR exhibition will demonstrate the production of a free-form automotive axial seal.
An Intelect 220 / 660-1100, equipped with a special laminating unit for processing crystalline multilayer PCs, is to demonstrate the benefits of IMD in a single, transparent process. Automating the production of emblems for automotive exterior applications, the IMD decoration process involves re-injecting a second surface using a single image followed by non-contact cleaning in a laminar flow box. According to the company, this ISO Class 7 clean room and this fully automated process correspond well to its new âhandle & placeâ concept.
To corroborate with the efforts of digitization and interface is a fully automated and efficient production cell for technical medical parts. The exhibition focuses on the Intelect S 100 / 460-250 with an automation system from Waldorf Technik, Engen, based on the patented Vario Tip FSS system from the German partner. The design of this trade show features the production of medical parts and insulin syringe caps, on a 16-cavity mold in a total cycle time of approximately six seconds.
Once again, an El-Exis SP 250 demonstrates its high speed capabilities by manufacturing a cup application. The hybrid machine for packaging features high speed, usability and durability. The origin of the short cycle times and injection speeds of 1000 mm / s can be traced to the hydraulic accumulator. As a result, processors can produce even thinner and lighter packaging items, resulting in significant reductions in raw material requirements, packaging waste and shipping costs.
Permanent monitoring of machine condition
Another novelty is the inauguration launch of a series of permanent machine condition monitoring systems. Reducing maintenance costs while maintaining reliability, they can be used to determine the actual degree of wear, allowing early detection and optimal maintenance planning towards the end of the life of the injection molding machine. . Thanks to condition monitoring, complex processes can be reliably analyzed directly on the machine. Allowing the monitoring of critical parameters, which usually requires considerable effort and resources.
At Fakuma 2021, the company will present three options that can be implemented in all series:
- The first option keeps all-electric machines constantly energy efficient and powerful.
- Another is to optimize the machine’s hydraulic oil parameters and maintain the quality of the components.
- The third reliably monitors the control voltage across the entire injection molding machine series.
Solutions for sustainability
At the fair, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag would like to draw special attention to the ecological advancements made in the production landscape. A new slogan âAct! âSustainablyâ, to which the company is committed and underpins all future innovations, will be communicated throughout the stand. The company claims that only machines and equipment that contribute to this sustainability statement will be presented.
Future-proof Industry 4.0 networking tools and web-based software
Meet future networking and communication requirements in the context of Industry 4.0, all the company’s robots and machines are now fully aligned with the OPC / UA control, monitoring and integration interface. In addition, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag presents its web-based software solution myConnect. This central platform gives customers direct access to a wide range of fully networked support services. Additionally, the myConnect system helps improve inefficiency management, lower costs, improve total cost of ownership, resolve errors, and minimize downtime, the company says.
Opaque onyx ABS shell made in collaboration with Sepro
In another showcase, longtime automation partner Sepro Robotique will produce an onyx-style shell on a fully electric Intelect 130 / 520-450 injection molding machine. Using a tool created by Polar-Form Werkzeugbau, Lahr, the two-tone black and white translucent layered mineral will be convincingly reproduced in ABS.
