SOMIC and GOYA Foods announce agreement on packaging machines

Eagan, Minnesota. – SOMIC America has entered into an agreement to supply GOYA Foods with an exclusive, retail ready end-of-line packaging machine. The deal was announced on the opening day of PACK Expo Las Vegas, which takes place over three days at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

At PACK Expo, SOMIC presents on stand SL 6460 the latest version of SOMIC ReadyPack with GOYA products packed in stand-up bags. The new machine GOYA has ordered is SOMIC’s 424 T2 + case packer, which rivals ReadyPack’s performance but on a slightly larger platform, said Peter Fox, SOMIC senior vice president of sales. He indicated that the machine is designed to handle the wrapping of wrap-around cases of both upright bags and cartons.

GOYA Foods is the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States. As the premier source of authentic Latin cuisine, it produces over 2,500 products from the Caribbean, Mexico, Spain, and Central and South America. Award-winning olive oils, beverages, confectionery, marinades, organics, frozen items and more are prepared and shipped to stores in bottles and jars, cans and flexible packaging.

Disney Arrubla, executive plant engineer at GOYA’s manufacturing facility in Seacaucus, New Jersey, said compact design, speed, packaging flexibility and future considerations were factored into its decision. .

“I met Peter Fox a few years ago at PACK Expo in Chicago. I was drawn to the compact and smart design of the machine, ”said Arrubla, who has worked at GOYA for seven years.

“I looked at three other suppliers, but none could provide a small footprint machine and meet our specifications. It provides the speed and type of packaging we need, and offers flexibility for other packaging designs in the future. The biggest challenge was to house all the equipment in a small room. The SOMIC case packer is the last piece of the puzzle to fit into the layout.

Jason Unanue, GOYA product manager, said the factory is preparing to install the machine in the first quarter of 2022.
